wowsville market

Last sunday we joined a street market in front of the "Wowsville" bar and record shop in Kreuzberg.
We - that is  just another wardrobe experience plus her husband and me.

Beside the fact that the weather was tropical and most of the expected audience had obviously better things to do than to visit a fleamarket, swimming in a lake or whatever... but we had a lot of fun!
And I even made some money for my upcoming holidays.

Look at her, she even looks super sexy in shorts and flats and got so many compliments...

I wore:
blouse & shorts: Heyday
hairflower set: etsy
wooden sling backs: Lasocki

See the nice organizer lady and some impressions from just another wardrobe experience 's stall:

time for champions

The passed weeks were so full of excitement!
It started with the first game of our German soccer team in Brazil.
I baked this 10 inch high chocolate-marzipan-cake, what a yummy monster.

Then it was time for the Geschwister Pfister and their 50s-based drag show.
The aftershow party happend in a gay bar which looked very much like my own home.

Three days later, my beloved Dolly Parton was in town!
I was so happy that I got one of the rare tickets as a christmas present and I was very excited to see her live.

dress: years ago from a professional dancer's shop
cowboy boots: Buffalo
handbag: 50s vintage, my grannies

Dolly sang all her great emotional songs and I cried a river. Let´s say two.
And afterwards - great time with drags again. I especially loved their hair and boobs, but Dolly's were bigger.
Larger then life!

Next on the scedule: Berlin fashion week and the Vintage circus.
Just another wandrobe experience and I went there to buy... nothing.
Read the hole story about it in her great blog.

Isn´t she beautiful?
I wore:
dress: 60 vintage, vintage shop
headpiece: 50s vintage, ebay
bag: 50s vintage, vintage shop

But we made the best out of it and I even got the perfect Pin-up body for a minute:

And how this exciting time ended? I think everyone out there already knows.
I put my patriotic eye make up with soccer lashes on and...

We won! World champion feeling all over!

the versatile dress

When I visited Madrid in March I found a very versatile dress. It´s handsewn, out of a shiny cheap lining fabric without a waistline, just a sweet ruffled detail on the shoulders and a simple collar - I would say it was homemade in the early 50s.

For a night out I styled it with bamboo and early plastic jewelery from the 40s and 50s, a vintage belt and did a Carmen Miranda inspired hairstyle with two buns in the neck and a big front roll.

dress: 50s vintage, Madrid
bamboo handle bag: 70s vintage, ebay
pink seamed fishnets: present from mum
sling pumps: Miss L fire

And for a walk in the sun and ice cream I paired the same dress with a cardigan and my everyday pumps.

 sunglasses: 40s vintage, fleamarket
cardigan: 50s vintage, vintage shop in Madrid
wicker bag: 50s vintage, vintage shop in New York

The handmade embroidery on the cardigan is so sweet.

My everyday pumps are those 40s vintage ones, worn with nude seamed fishnets froms What Katie did. This thights were my first buy from WKD years ago, they are still intact and I love the quality of the sewn seams. To show you more, I'm planning a post about my seamed stockings and nylons...

UFA Divas: Marika Rökk

I recognized that I unattended my big passion lately: old movies. So I decided to start an UFA-Diva series.
Let´s begin with Marika Rökk.

She was a Moulin Rouge and Broadway dancer before she signed by the Universum Film Studios in Germany. Her image was constructed by the Nazi propaganda as an Hungarian/Austrian counterpart to the Hollywood movie stars like Betty Grable. The slogans sounded like: She has the same humor and charme as the Americans, but a lot more paprika in the blood! You get it? Most of the movies that were produced in the time of the regime of Propaganda Minister Goebbels were very prude with one exception: Marika. She often wore half-naked or exotic costumes.

Let me show you some stills from the movie: "The woman of my dreams" from 1944. While the WWII was in his hard last year and the German army had high casualities, the UFA produced this revue in colour with big efforts. A little escape in a very difficult time...

Marika plays a showstar who needs a time off in the hills. The story is dull, but it contains a contemporary hit-song and the costumes are great. She was pregnant while the film was made, but you can´t see it.

I specially love the traditional style...

or this high turban with the wide shouldered silverfox fur.

The stage design is so beautiful and Art Deco. The stage costumes reaches from Balinesian dancer...

to a dangerous Spanish lady...

in a seems-like-naked dress...

or glittery floor-length evening robes with oversized hairflowers...

and even a 40s bride.

And of course everything ends up in a cheerfull happy end.

After the war, Marika was banned from the movies because of her closeness to the Nazi regime, but already in 1947 she was rehabilitated and made some more movies and TV shows. But she never reached her stardom from the 30s and 40s.Some people still remember her as a part of Nazi propaganda, others point out her talent.

So lets say goodbye to Marika Rökk with one of her Spanish dance numbers out of "Frauen sind doch bessere Diplomaten" from 1941:

pictoplasma

Because of the nasty weather we had on sunday we decided to visit the Pictoplasma exhibition in the great Jahn Kaufhaus. I loved all the sweet or spooky little creatures there and wished they could be my pets. Especially the one above.

dress: 60s vintage, vintageshop Madrid
velvet hairbow: DIY
plastic jewelery: 60s vintage, fleamarkets
tights: present from my mom
bag: 60s vintage, fleamarket

The color of the walls fitted my outfit so well - blue on blue with blue.
Have a closer look at the fabric of the dress, I really like the watercolour design.

The Jahn Kaufhaus is an old empty lost building which was re-opened just for that one event.
We loved the architecture and the light installation.

There are even installations to interact with.
So go and check it out, when you love comics and digital cuteness and you are in Berlin right now.

 Leave you with some impressions:

mexican supper

After our exhausting spring-cleaning we really needed a propper supper - time for some heavy mexican food and my new skirt. We went to the mexican snack bar CHAPARRO. Highly recommended, it´s yummy and full of cool kitsch.

I can´t get enough from the old sequins and how good they are conserved and those soft laces,
