the versatile dress

When I visited Madrid in March I found a very versatile dress. It´s handsewn, out of a shiny cheap lining fabric without a waistline, just a sweet ruffled detail on the shoulders and a simple collar - I would say it was homemade in the early 50s.

For a night out I styled it with bamboo and early plastic jewelery from the 40s and 50s, a vintage belt and did a Carmen Miranda inspired hairstyle with two buns in the neck and a big front roll.

hair flowers: DIY
necklace: 40s vintage, ebay
dress: 50s vintage, Madrid
bamboo handle bag: 70s vintage, ebay
pink seamed fishnets: present from mum
sling pumps: Miss L fire

And for a walk in the sun and ice cream I paired the same dress with a cardigan and my everyday pumps.

 sunglasses: 40s vintage, fleamarket
cardigan: 50s vintage, vintage shop in Madrid
wicker bag: 50s vintage, vintage shop in New York

The handmade embroidery on the cardigan is so sweet.

My everyday pumps are those 40s vintage ones, worn with nude seamed fishnets froms What Katie did. This thights were my first buy from WKD years ago, they are still intact and I love the quality of the sewn seams. To show you more, I'm planning a post about my seamed stockings and nylons...

  1. I love the way you have worn the dress for so totally different occasions! I agree with you about the quality from WKD. I have bought plenty of tights and stockings from there, but I don't think I have yet tried the fishnets with contrast seams. The size of the net and the sewing of the seam make them look not only good quality but also incredibly elegant. Thank you for the close-up - one for my next order, me thinks! Oh, and looking forward that that next post...Kx

  6. Ah, the power of the little black dress! You've styled both looks brilliantly, and I LOVE your necklace in the first outfit. Thanks for the tip on the WKD tights, they look amazing, especially paired with those fabulous shoes!
