a forest full of cukes

You will see no cukes in this forest now, but there were a lot in the summertime. It's the "Spreewald" - famous for his pickled cucumbers, the beautiful little canals and the traditional costumes. A pefect place to hide from the city for a few days. We found a little house in the middle of nowhere to stay in...

spent a day in a spa and did little walks. Sadly the weather was just misty and rainy - time for the one and only autumnal jacket in the world, of course a classic Pendleton 49ers with red check.

turban: made out of a H&M scarf mit red lips prints
jacket: Pendleton 49ers from etsy
jeans: collectif
boots: Clarks  Originals

In the nice Spreewald museum we could admire the traditional costumes with the huge hats. I like this picture of a little lady on her first day in school from the 1930s. The Sorb, the natives, still wear it proudly.

The museum even had a kind of historical train station, look at all the great dresses and suitcases.

I took place in one of the cabins, pulled my Röckl gloves on and Honey drove the steam train back to Berlin...

The only jewelery I wore was this 1950s bracelet with acorns, autumnally like fallen leaves. Hope you enjoy this season too.

in love with a picture

Yesterday we visited an exhibition of the artist Cem Ulug and I fell in love with this great spooky collage above. Sadly I can't affort it, but I get insprired for my own upcoming drawing projects... and isn´t everything about inspiration?

my new 60s-style coat: Ashley Brooke, present from my mom

But what´s under the coat?

hat: Filippo Catarzi
dress: 50s vintage from Electric Lemonade Vintageshop in Las Vegas
body and tights: Wolford
belt: 50s vintage
ankle boots: Even&odd

I love the heavy, black raw silk, the pleats and the buttons on the back.

Not to forget my little doggy friend, an early plastic brooch I got from a fleamarket.

Three further things I love right now:
My warm mint-coloured leather gloves, my 50s vintage fur scarf and my new lipstain from Lime Crime in Pink velvet.
What do you love right now?

Follow the swan!

This week started with a swan.
For a ladie's night at my home, I filled my 40s pink swan with little roses
and used it as centerpiece for the table. The ladies loved it!

On tuesday it was time for a little comedy show after work.
I wore a plain 50s felt dress without petticoat, but gave attention to the details:
50s grey gloves, 50s silver lurex evening bag...

60s aurora borealis clip ons with matching necklace and a 50s lipstick red velvet hairpiece.

Friday we went to the Dios de los Muertos ceremony of the Mexican community in Berlin.
The huge altar for the dead was very touchy and beautifully made.

My outfit was insprired by my beloved Frida Kahlo and people really loved it.
Some took photos and called: "HOLA, HOLA FRIDA!" One Mexican lady even made me a present:
her Frida wood brooch! See it next to my 50s silver mexican mother of pearl pendant. Isn´t she cool?

And I met Frida herself.

carnations and ribbons in hair: Walmart, Nevada
earrings: my mum bought in Istanbul
cardigan: Freddies of pinewood
skirt: 50s vintage, ebay
tights: Falke

The next day my very talented friend, the painter Stephanie Nückel, had an exhibition with other artists from New York. She photographed and painted my younger self many years ago. I couldn´t believe this young lady with Bettie bangs was once me... the impression in my face says everything.

(BTW: my 50s felt dress got pockets!)

With a bunch of artists from the exhibition we had some drinks at the bar of the Kater Holzig restaurant.
I admired the decoration and so, that fun-tastique week ended with a swan, as it started.

Yummy Easter

I love easter - especially all the pastell colours!

Time to take out my litte 50s rabbit on his scooter, he is with me since my childhood.
This year I invited friends to have a little easter dinner together.

Honey was cooking.
Starter: wild herbs salat with pansys.

Main couse:
deer roast with trout caviar on french beans and mash of Truffe de Chine.

Dessert:
mint curd cheese cakes and egg liquor served in tiny chocolate cups.

I wore my Horrockses housewife dress from etsy,

with a little beehive

and matching 50s gloves, 50s poodle brooch and 50s clip ons - all found on fleamarkets.

And finally lets have a look beneath: my egg nogg coloured petticoat
and my pale pink 50s killer heels. I served all courses in these... murder!

Hope you all had a great easter celebration, too!

Uckermark

 dress: Trashy Diva
hairflower: Swell Dame, etsy

When I bought this dress for my birthday party months ago, I was sure that it would be already springtime... but I was the only one in bright colours between all the black and grey turtlenecks in the club. This time we all get the feeling, that the winter will never ever end...

After a great party, it was time to relax and have some days off. We left the city to enjoy the village life in the Uckermark, a region north of Berlin. On our walks, we found the ruins of an ancient abbey and the hardly expected sun showed up.

dress: good times Barcelona, etsy
hat: handmade

We paid a visit to our beloved Amur tigers again. I think they really were enjoying the snow.

The best of all - we had rented a very, very old farm house. Everything was authentic conserved and so charming. This sweet knocker was still working, but the pump had been defeated by the winter.

Is there anything better than a warm, crackling fireplace and a big red velvety art nouveau sofa when you come home from a walk trough the biting cold? Fortunately we had both...

I hope that this sweet little bird house will soon have some cheeping visitors and when the birds come back, spring will finally break. Have a yummy easter time!

Treptower Ehrenmal

Last weekend we had such a freezy snowy winter in Berlin, that I got into a Russian feeling in a way... so we decided to have a walk in my beloved Treptower Park and visited the 1949-built "Treptower Ehrenmal", a Soviet war memorial for 80.000 Red Army-soldiers who died fighting for a free Berlin.

Time to wear my new 40s felt hat and my 40s mink coat. The light was perfect for the cold colours. It is not reworked with Photoshop, this is real great blue winter light.

When you pass the huge gate, you will meet a statue symbolising Mother Russia.

Vis a vis started the gigantic soldier cemetary framed with red stone flags
and a soldier on each side.

This figurines are always decorated with fresh flowers.
The essential piece is the famous 30 meters high monument.

In his base is a round memorial hall with a mosaic wall.
You can´t go in, but you can see the incredible picture with respect from a distance.

On our way back, we gave attention to all the details on the gravestones.
We will come back in spring.

Do you like my new hat, Santa brought me?
It always gives me a special feeling to visit historic places in fitting historic clothing.
